The Travel Books; This is a collection of three travel stories by the novelist, playwright and short story writer Somerset Maugham. On a Chinese Screen presents in a sequence of vignettes, the extraordinary range of European types resident in China during the authors travels during 1919-1920 in China. The Gentleman In The Parlour was first published in 1935. It is an account of a journey the author took from Rangoon to Haiphong. Don Fernando is set in Spain and begins with the tale of Loyola s life and conversion, then it discusses the writings of St. Teresa, the paintings of El Greco and comments on such figures as Cervantes, Luis de Leon, Lope de Vega, Velazquez and the creator of Don Juan.
