Two volumes presented in a black clamshell box with spine-label titled in gold. A facsimile of the third J. M. Dent edition of Malory’s work (1927) designed and illustrated by Aubrey Beardsley in 1893-94.
Aubrey Beardsley produced a vast selection of illustrations for this, his first professional commission: 20 full-or double-page spreads, 240 chapter headings, 43 ornamental borders, 25 initial letters, 19 small ornaments and 4 headpieces.
The second volume is ‘Thomas Malory, the Morte Darthur and Aubrey Beardsley: an essay by Anthony S. G. Edwards’ which was specially commissioned by The Folio Society and is sewn into printed paper wrappers and inserted in a pocket inside the box.
