This is a week-by-week account of what to look for as a naturalist in the Dales. It is a personal chronicle, which will appeal to visitor and resident alike. It is illustrated by the author's own line drawings and a superb selection of colour illustrations by the natural-history photographer Norman Duerden. The aim of this book is to record events in nature's calendar, such as the arrival of the first cuckoo in Spring; in much of the Yorkshire Dales, the first cuckoo is normally heard within three days either side of April 27th. However, this is only one of hundred events in the natural cycle, which occur within a few days of any particular date each year. This book shows readers what to look out for in the Dales, enabling them to increase their awareness and enjoyment of nature.
