Mary Queen of Scots

Mary Queen of Scots

Mary Queen of Scots (8 December 1542 – 8 February 1587) is perhaps the most famous, most intriguing and most studied of all Scottish Monarchs. Born in 1542, her short life was marred by love, betrayal and murder.
Read all about this fascinating monarch in two superbly written books;
1) Antonia Fraser’s classic biography of her won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, became an international; bestseller and was translated into eight different languages.

2) Philippa Gregory’s stunning novel looks at the captive years of Mary Queen of Scots. Here is the story of two women fighting for one man, of two queens competing for dominance, and of one remarkable woman who is prepared to die rather than deny her principles or need for freedom.

Origninally sold at 5 shillings (a crown) per volume, this edition is probably the best illustrated of all the Dickens’ editions containing over 700 illustrations, an average of over 40 illustrations per volume.
